Don't chuck it on the scrap-heap!
Call me old-fashioned, but I hate to see computers abandoned in skips or in that special van down at the rubbish dump.

You don't always need to spend loads of money on a brand new system. Computers do die sometimes, but often, with a bit of attention, your faithful old computer could do the job. That could save you money and hassle: no need to move all your documents and programs from one computer to another.

Perhaps your computer keeps going slow or freezing up when you ask too much of it. A memory upgrade could fix that.

Perhaps you have no more room to store your photos and music. A hard disk upgrade could fix that.

You could have better sound or graphics, or a new drive to play or record DVDs.

There is almost no part of a computer that can't be upgraded (though laptops can be trickier than desktops).
